I’m The Best Copywriter and Here’s Why… I’m not a copywriter.
Finding the right person for the job is hard. Of course it is! We’ve all been there, and I get it. Are you hoping someone will swoop into your life and make this whole process easier? Well, you’ve come to the right place, and I’m glad you’re here. Take a journey with me…
First Things, First.
People all over the world are asking, “What’s copywriting anyway?!” (You and I aren’t, obviously, we already know.) If you ask this website I Googled, it’d tell you,
“Copywriting is the process of creating written copy (content) with the purpose of increasing conversions and ultimately increasing revenue. It is the art of writing a compelling copy that addresses readers’ pain points and emotions with the primary goal of making a sale.”
But the question remains, is that copywriting? Yes, yes it is. HOWEVER…
It is my belief and conviction that copywriting is so much more. Copywriting, like any writing, is first and foremost a creative activity. Even if you are creating a line of text to describe the color beige, you are still engaging in the act of creation. This is a point I think is lost on so many writers and is, by and large, one of the biggest reasons I was so compelled by your job posting.
Are you worried that your colors are making too much of a statement at the wrong time? Neon green at your niece’s christening might be fun in the movies, but you live in the real world.
Beige has you covered. The color of respectful work lunches and mild mannered neighborhood dads; Beige is here to give you the look of someone who just checked their 401k… and they liked what they saw.
“Elmer liked to say that a story was like a river. It started small, its head a little reservoir of an idea, trickling into a stream of information. As the story rolled on it picked up and grew deeper. Little tributaries of people, and places, and things, joined with the stream until it became a rushing current of fact and recollection, carving a path through the land of conscience and sub-conscience. ‘You can stop a good story as much as you can stop a river’ he’d tell me.”
Why Do I Think I Can Write Great Copy?
I do words good.
Words are hard. Not everybody can do good words, and that’s ok! I love words. I have an affinity for the English language and a passion for creating riveting lines of letters, spaces, and a plenitude of punctuation.
I write with abandon.
I love to write. I write every day. I never stop. Screenplays, short stories, comedy sketches, a novel about a kingdom of rabbits who take arms against predatory foxes. Writing is in my blood and it’s one of the few things in life I truly love doing.
I know people.
Not in the sense of, “Hey, you better do what I say, I know people…” but in the sense of, I understand people. I’m a people person. I understand what makes people tick and I know how to connect with them. So much of writing good copy is understanding who you’re writing for and making a direct connection to their reality.
What Do I Bring To The Table?
A Unique Understanding of How to Connect With People.
When we interact with art, music, writing, regardless of what it is, we want to feel like we are being spoken to directly. People want to read things that reach out and speak to their point of view. To their unique set of experiences and ideals.
I read Stephen King because he takes the mundane and natural and injects it with the “what if?” uncertainty of the supernatural. That speaks to my sensibilities. I read Game Informer magazine because it speaks to my experience and interest.
Obviously everyone is different, but everyone is looking for the same thing, they want a connection. Once you understand the core of that, writing directly to different walks of life becomes easy.
A Point of View
Example: How do we get yacht people to eat more watermelon?
NO POINT OF VIEW:
Watermelon is a large, sweet fruit. It derives its name from the refreshing juice that makes up 91% of the melon. It is eaten around the world, and makes a great snack on or off the land.
Multiple Pulitzer Prizes!!!
POINT OF VIEW:
It’s entirely too hot! The sea breeze has died, and while it’s a beautiful day on the water, the salt in the air feels dry. Nothing could be better in this moment than a cool, juicy slice of watermelon. The sweetly refreshing, familiar-yet-exotic, tropical fruit of yachtsmen everywhere.
I’ll take one hundred watermelons please. And have them loaded aboard my yacht!

In Closing
I understand you might be asking yourself, “Self, why on earth would I hire this guy?!” While I realize I might not have the history or experience other candidates might have, I can assure you beyond a shadow of a doubt. No one else will work harder, or bring the creativity and drive to be the absolute best at anything you put in front of me.
There are three things you can expect from me, as an employee. They are as follows.
1) PROFESSIONALISM
As you can see in this extremely professional photograph I am indeed wearing both a collared shirt, and a tie.
2) CREATIVITY
(See below graph.)
3) HARD WORK
If I put THIS much effort into building a website just as a job application, imagine what I can do for you when it’s my actual job! Sky’s the limit!
